Updates
Hello, readers!
I know it's been a while since my last post. I'm sorry to report that I haven't been working on any new projects for the past couple of weeks. I have some chronic health issues that were acting up, and it really impacted my ability to work on things.
But. . . I did have a bit of time on my hands, and I thought I'd let you know about some things going on that are related to this blog.
First off, we have a new feature! There is now an option to subscribe to this blog by email. You'll find it on the right-hand side near the bottom of that column, underneath the blog archive section.
Secondly, there's a Facebook page; you'll find it at https://www.facebook.com/SewKnitHome. It's still a work in progress, but I try to post things there that are a rather short for a blog post, but that I run across while researching projects that seem helpful or interesting.
Third, Sew Knit Home is on Ravelry! I'm still learning how to use the more social aspects of the site, but it's super handy for keeping track of projects, supplies, and patterns. If you're looking for new patterns, or even new knit stitches, don't forget to also check out your local library for pattern books and stitchionaries.
Finally, feel free to stop by my Etsy shop at https://www.etsy.com/shop/SylaFern.
There, now that the updates on what's been going on for the past couple weeks are out of the way, let's talk about what's coming up.
If you checked out the FB page, you might've noticed some mentions of blocking wires, and making your own set of them (along with a link to an article on it). When I'm not feeling well, I tend to knit. A lot. As a result, I have several new lace bookmarks that are all bound off, but haven't been blocked or stiffened at all. You might remember the first one that was the subject of a past post. I'm happy to tell you that after the first project using tiny needles (sizes like 00, 0, and 1), it gets much easier. In the next week or so, I'll be trying to stiffen them up with natural solutions (such as sugar water, or possibly corn starch). Don't worry, I'll let you know how it goes, and how messy it is. I'd say 'if' it's messy, but. . . it's a first attempt, and I still have no idea what I'll put them on to dry, so it's bound to cause at least a little mess, if only from dripping starch or sugar water.
I know these updates focus quite a bit on knitting. In the next few weeks, we'll try to get back to some sewing projects as well, perhaps with a pair of wide-leg, or flared, shorts, like McCall's pattern 7131, or a pair of pjs. It's been a while since I've tackled a clothing sewing project, and I've never tried shorts/pants, so it should be interesting! Stay tuned.
