Pattern Picks! (Finally)
The pattern picks are in! Admittedly, they were in a few days ago, but I just hadn't got around to posting them. I hoped to perhaps cut one out on Sunday, but. . . to be honest I don't remember what I did on Sunday instead, but it wasn't fabric cutting. I've been home alone a lot the last few days, and I went a little wild.
Okay, maybe not wild. 😋 There were no crazy parties, no loud music (unless you count me singing rather loudly and off-key. . . why, you ask? because I could), and no staying up all night. Ferris Bueller's Day Off it was not. But there were many pots of tea, quite a bit of sewing, some knitting, blocking, and even some cooking. There were a ton of tomatoes in the fridge from the garden, so I tried making some tomato soup. It was a little challenging, despite how simple the directions seemed. There was an immersion blender (and then a food processor) involved, and I'm not used to the power tools of the kitchen. It came out okay I think. . . there may have been a slightly odd flavor to it, but I forgot the salt, and accidentally used turkey broth instead of chicken broth; they look so much alike in the freezer. Then I splurged, and tried making lemon bars. There were no substitutions; I used whole eggs and real butter. It went against all my healthy-eating goals of the past few years, but it was worth it.
They came out good, very rich, especially the shortbread crust. But enough about my cooking escapades. Back to the patterns. After much debate, I finally picked one on the very last day of the 1-week deadline. Well, technically I picked two, but who's counting? The winners are: M7060 and M7131.
I plan on making A and D from the first one as a pj set, and B from the second one. I admit I'm a little nervous about the A/D set. It'll be my first attempt at sewing with knit fabric.
These are the two fabrics I chose for the patterns. The pink floral one is the knit. I considered making it into a dress, but I feel like it would be a rather unforgiving fabric for a dress. It's a somewhat thin knit, and would show, well. . . everything I'd rather it not show. Even though the dress pattern is loose-fitting, the material itself is clingy. So I thought it best to turn it into pjs before I'm tempted again to make it a dress. The other fabric is a rayon challis, which I thought would have a nice drape for a pattern like M7131. As you can probably tell, I have a certain fondness for floral prints and vivid colors. I'm hoping to cut out one or both of these patterns by next week so I can try to finish them before the weather gets too chilly to wear them. I'll let you know how it goes!
